Topics inside this course
Awareness and induction depth — not an accredited occupational qualification.
- Ordinary hours, overtime and rest as manager decisions
- Leave types and why WhatsApp-only approvals fail
- Earnings threshold: when you must ask payroll, not guess
- Notice and termination at a high level — then hand over to HR
- Time records managers must not ignore
Built for the people who take the training
Line managers, acting supervisors and payroll-adjacent roles in South African organisations who approve time, leave or overtime.
What learners leave able to do
- Check policy before promising hours, overtime or leave
- Recognise the main leave types the BCEA actually provides
- Know that an earnings threshold exists and that guessing it is not a strategy
- Escalate termination and notice questions instead of handling them alone
Modules you can expect
Structure may tighten when you localise from your own source pack in Kre8AI — this is the shape of the library title.
- 1Conditions that apply at work
What the BCEA is for, in manager language.

- 4Thresholds and exceptions
Earnings threshold and why sectoral determinations may also apply.
- 5Ending employment
Notice basics and when to call HR.
- 6Knowledge check
Scored assessment for line managers.
Scored assessment for managers. Not a payroll calculation course. Parental and other leave categories must match the Act as in force on the date you generate.
Written for the workplace, not for the statute book alone
Most BCEA problems start with a manager who meant well: extra hours “just this once”, leave approved only in a chat, or a resignation handled without notice rules. This course is the manager layer — what you may agree, what you must record, and what you must send to HR.
Working time and leave are where teams invent folklore. Learners practise looking up the organisation’s policy instead of copying the last manager’s habits. Sick leave and family responsibility leave get practical treatment; parental leave is described at the level the current Act requires, with a reminder to verify before you teach a number of days that later changes.
The earnings threshold is named because managers routinely get it wrong. The course does not ask anyone to memorise the rand amount. It asks them to know the threshold exists, that it changes, and that payroll owns the answer.
It is not a substitute for the labour-relations discipline course or for legal advice on a live dismissal. Generate from your BCEA extracts and leave policy in Kre8AI so the system names and approval paths match reality. Export as SCORM or HTML.
When sectoral determinations apply (hospitality, wholesale and others), add a follow-on module rather than overloading this baseline. Re-export when the threshold notice or your leave policy changes.
Play the library demo, or generate BCEA basics for managers from your own hours and leave pack in Kre8AI.
What you would upload in Kre8AI
BCEA extracts, leave and hours policies

- Your leave and hours-of-work policies
Formats, coach and provenance
- Standalone HTML to play in the browser; SCORM 2004 for your LMS.
- Optional AI course coach on Growth and Scale — grounded in approved material; off on quizzes and final assessment by default. Course plays offline; coach needs a network.
- Built in Kre8AI and reviewed before we published it. Not a substitute for your organisation's own policy — review before you make it mandatory.
